WONDERING SCHOOL VIDEOS & TALKS
Sociocracy in Democratic Schools

In this presentation we gave at the Child Friendly Community Conference, we share an extract from School Circles film to illustrate how children can make collective decisions using Sociocracy. We explain the main principles of this governance system in relation to democracy, show examples of “School Circle Structures” and share how decisions are made based on consent.

Consent Decision-making with Children

In this video children make a collective decision about a candyfloss machine in the School Circle at De Vallei, a democratic school in the Netherlands. In this school meeting, the students are using sociocracy to make their decision about whether or not to buy a candyfloss machine for the event they are organising.

Sociocratic Schools – Annewiek Reijmer

In this video, Annewiek Reijmer, former general manager of The Sociocracy Group (TSG), explains how a sociocratic circle organization could be applied to a school. The scheme shown in the video is one example among many possibilities of how a school could be organized into circles, in this case with 4 levels: mentoring circle, group circle, school circle and top circle.

How a School Circles works

Else, a student from DOE (Democratic Education Eindhoven), gives an insight into how students and staff make decisions in her school on the School Circle. They use Sociocracy, a decision-making process based on the consent of everyone in the circle. To make a decision the circle follows 3 rounds: Picture Forming, Opinions and Consent Round.
